Women of Color Graduate Student Scholarships

Dear WoCC Member and Ally,
We need your help.

Your support is vital to the continued success of the Women of Color Caucus Student Essay Awards Program. Today, your support proves to be even more vital and critical to the continued success of the program.

The majority of our funding comes from Caucus dues and contributions from members such as your self.

The Caucus is now raising funds for the 2009 Women of Color Caucus Student Essay awards, student housing and travel to the NWSA's annual conference, as well as our student awards presentation and reception.

The Women of Color Caucus (WoCC) of the National Women's Studies Association is open to, and welcoming of, all NWSA members. We are a constituency within NWSA that offers our national association a singular opportunity to look within our own ranks to discover ways to promote broader inclusion of historical, social, cultural, political and economical perspectives of racialized women in the United States and abroad.

One of the primary ways we fulfill our mission is by promoting the scholarship of women of color conducting research on women and girls of African, Asian, and Native American and Latino descent. For 2008 alone, we awarded $2400.00 in student scholarships, recognizing the excellent work of six students conducting new research on women and girls of color. With your help, we can equal, and hope to increase, that amount for 2009.

We are sponsoring our 2009 WoCC Student Essay Award Fundraising Drive, which begins now and continues through August 31, 2009. One of our volunteers may be calling you to encourage you to make a personal pledge to the Women of Color Caucus Student Essay Awards. Should you decide to provide student support please click on the ChipIn link above or make your checks payable to NWSA, in the memo section write "Women of Color Caucus" and mail to NWSA 7100 Baltimore Ave, Ste 203, College Park, MD 20740.

Our WoCC Student Essay awards scholarship fund goal this year is $5,000. We ask that you give, generously, from your heart and support our efforts, which will impact generations of women of color student scholars to come.

Thank you for your support of the WoCC scholarship program.

Sincerely,
Annette Madlock, Ph.D.
Chair, Women of Color Caucus
