Overview
NWSA Communities are made up among three distinct constituency group types:
CAUCUSES,
TASK FORCES, AND AREA INTEREST GROUPS.
NWSA
thrives because of the participation of its members – there’s
always something to do if you’re looking for a way to contribute,
connect, and learn. New and longtime members are all welcomed to
participate at every level of the organization.
These groups exist
to represent particular points of view, attempt to address a specific
issue through action/activism, or provide an opportunity to meet
around a common scholarly interest. To join one or more of these
groups, you may indicate interest on your membership application,
or you can contact the NWSA national office or chair of the group
for membership information.
Please note that most Caucuses charge
a small fee for affiliation, while Task Forces and Interest Groups
do not. These groups meet annually at the national conference, and
often engage in work throughout the year primarily relying on email
and the community forums.

CAUCUSES are designated
groups that are under-represented within society or NWSA as an organization.
NWSA has acted from the beginning on the belief that members whose
identities, voices, and points of view may be numerically under-represented
within NWSA might not find an organizational base or be able to make
themselves heard without caucus representation.
Caucuses
are encouraged to maintain year-long contact among their members. At
a minimum, they meet yearly at the national conference.

AREA
INTEREST GROUPS are oriented toward those who wish to meet around
a common scholarly interest. Area Interest Groups accomplish their
goals primarily through the development of regular conference programming.
Currently active caucuses, task forces, area interest
groups, and any groups that specifically asked for time to discuss
formalizing an area interest group or task force have scheduled meetings
at this conference.
