BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is a staff member in the Center for Diversity and Women's Programs and reports directly the Assistant Dean of Students/Department Head. The staff member assists in providing direction for and support of diversity related activities for the campus community, with primary emphasis being on initiatives related to women.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as an advocate for women students, staff, and faculty. Assess campus climate issues regarding women within the WPI community. Conduct program assessment.
- Assist women in achieving their full potential as WPI students by providing programs and services that meet their educational, professional, personal, physical, and safety needs.
- Provide leadership to student organizations supporting women.
- Assist the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Office in the recruitment and enrollment of women. Work in collaboration with the Admissions Office to coordinate on campus programs and activities for women as well as publications aimed at the recruitment of women.
- Develop and facilitate pipeline programs aimed at increasing the pool of potential female applicants from which WPI can recruit.
- Coordinate the gathering of statistical data on women's enrollment, retention, and graduation rates from WPI and maintain informational databases.
- Assist Career Development Center in establishing internship opportunities for women.
- Create opportunities for women to participate in REU internships at WPI once externally funded.
- Identify and pursue external funding sources to promote and implement programs and activities for women.
- Provide support for female faculty teaching in the STEM disciplines.
- Assist in serving as an advocate and resource for all diverse student populations including but not limited to ethnic/racial groups and LGBT population. Support WPI's Strategic Plan for diversity and pluralism.
- Assist in providing support for issues of religious diversity and direction for spiritual life activities.
- Assist in the development of the departmental advisory boards charged with the development of financial, human and corporate resources.
- Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of paraprofessional student staff as required.
- Serve as a member of the Administrator on Call group as coordinated through the Dean of Student office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Masters degree in higher education administration, student services, or related area preferred, bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in higher education administration required.
- Experience working with students in STEM disciplines highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development of collaborative programming both internal and external to an institute of higher education.
- Experience in successful grant writing required, as well as experience in building relationships with potential sponsors for program support.
- Demonstrated skill in establishing good working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
- Excellent written and oral communication required.

LGBT STUDIES FELLOWSHIP
One-year LGBT Studies teaching fellowship at the pre- or post-doc level, to begin September 1, 2010. Appointment involves teaching two or three courses and residency for the year. The field is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates who work on queer communities of color and/or take an intersectional approach to the study of sexuality. Applicants should also be committed to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment. Description: The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to fill a two-year post-doctoral appointment in masculinities and queer theory, to begin in the 2009-10 academic year. We are particularly interested in candidates from disciplines or interdisciplinary programs in the social sciences and humanities. Special consideration will be given to those whose research explores transnational and/or intersectional issues and masculinities, as well as queer theory.
