Description:
The Department of Women’s Studies at Texas Woman’s University invites applications for the positions of Assistant Professor (2 positions) and Associate Professor of Women’s Studies starting in Fall 2011. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate seminars in areas of specialization, teaching Introduction to Women’s Studies for the undergraduate core curriculum, and directing graduate student research. Other responsibilities may include advising students, supervising graduate teaching assistants, serving on graduate committees, participating on program and university committees, and actively participating in program development. Scholarly productivity in the form of research publications and presentations is expected.

A Ph.D. with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Women’s Studies and/or extensive research in Women’s Studies is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a clearly defined scholarly research agenda appropriate to the rank. Preferred qualifications include previous experience working with diverse student populations, teaching experience in Women’s Studies, knowledge of multicultural issues, and interest in electronic course delivery. A commitment to the transdisciplinary, multicultural mission of the program is vital.

The Department of Women’s Studies offers a new Ph.D. degree, the M.A. degree, a Graduate Certificate, and an undergraduate minor. Approximately 1,800 undergraduate students per year take courses in the program for University core curriculum credit. Currently there are approximately fifty masters and nine doctoral students enrolled in the graduate program, which offers courses on U.S. women of colors, feminist/womanist theories, epistemologies, feminist pedagogies, qualitative research methods, ecofeminism, spiritual activism, and other topics. Members of the Women’s Studies faculty maintain strong collaborative working relationships across the university.

Feminist Science/Environmental Studies: Expertise in feminist scientific research concerning women, including critique of dominant scientific models, the history of women in science, and alternative approaches to the understanding of female bodies, sexualities, reproduction, the environment and sustainability.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related field, with a minimum of a graduate minor or concentration in Women’s Studies required and a minimum of an M.A. in biological or environmental science, and:

• Ability to support and develop Women’s Studies Curriculum in natural science, technology, and ecofeminism, including concerns related to gender, race, class, sexuality, and species
• A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching of a very diverse student population, including theoretical, applied and activist perspectives
• A commitment to strengthen an already successful M.A. program in Women’s Studies
• A commitment to collaborate in College and University programs related to the environment and sustainability
• A strong record or promise of scholarly accomplishments appropriate to level of appointment
• Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues and community to develop productive networks for education and research

The Smith College Program for the Study of Women and Gender invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in gender, the law and public policy. Candidates should be prepared to offer courses at the intermediate and advanced levels in the racial and gendered construction of law and public policy, as well as an interdisciplinary introductory course to the field of women and gender studies. Focus within the broad rubric of gender and the law may include one or more of these policy areas: international human rights, gender-based violence, immigration, healthcare, or the environment. Successful candidates will have demonstrated research and teaching commitments to understanding the intersection of gender with race, class, and sexuality in the analysis of the law and public policy. Priority will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in political science, public policy, women’s studies, or a J.D. Description:
The Department of Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a scientist or health practitioner to fill a tenure track assistant professor position in Gender and Health. This individual will teach courses on women’s health, including a large, interdisciplinary introduction to Gender & Women’s Studies—“Women and their Bodies in Health and Disease.” Applicants should demonstrate the ability to integrate social, economic or political analyses with biomedical knowledge and must have completed an earned doctorate by summer 2011 in a field such as public health, human biology, biological anthropology, health psychology, community nursing, medicine, or biology education. Possible areas of specialization within gender and health include: health disparities, global health, feminist analyses of health science, reproductive justice, or Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/ Transgender /Queer/Intersex health. Principal duties of the position will include teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate degree levels (normally two courses per semester) and conducting scholarly research and performing University and community service as appropriate. Teaching experience is preferred and demonstrated potential for research excellence is required. Salary will be competitive.
This position is fully funded through the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies but a partial appointment in another unit could be arranged if the candidate desires.

The Department of Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an interdisciplinary unit that offers an undergraduate degree and certificate, a Master’s degree, and a Ph.D. minor, and administers the LGBT certificate. The Duke University Program in Women's Studies invites applications for two postdoctoral associates in Interdisciplinary Feminist Studies to complement their 2011-2012 theme of "The Future of the Feminist 1970's." We seek candidates with interdisciplinary experience in Women’s Studies.

We welcome empirical, textual, and theoretical specialization from a diverse array of academic fields, political and cultural contexts, and historical periods. We are interested to understand how some of the major interventions of the 1970's--for example, feminist art and film practices, marxist and radical feminism, eco-feminism, lesbian separatism, human and civil rights discourse, cold war divisions and non-aligned movements, and postcolonial internationalism---continue to have an impact on feminist thought, offer important interventions into contemporary questions, or map the futures of feminism. Postdoctoral fellows will be included in a faculty-graduate seminar and a reading group on these themes and are expected to be in residence for the academic year. Fellows will teach one course related to their scholarship. The fellowship includes a stipend, health insurance, and office space. Applicants should be more than two years and no more than ten years past the PhD as of August 1st of 2011.
