WOMEN OF COLOR LEADERSHIP PROJECT

The WoCLP is designed to increase the number of women of color students and faculty within the field of women’s studies  and gender studies and, consequently, to have an impact on the levels of participation and power by women of color in the PA&D, NWSA, and in the field of women’s studies as a whole.

Women of color in women’s studies, ethnic studies, or related fields may apply if they aspire to leadership within women’s / gender studies or NWSA.

Applicants may include graduate students, faculty, and current program administrators who wish to be more involved in program or Association leadership.

WOMEN OF COLOR JUNIOR FACULTY INSTITUTE (SPELMAN)

Hosted by Spelman College’s Women’s Research and Resource Center in conjunction with the National Women’s Studies Association, the Institute is designed to explore issues of power and privilege and examine intersectional analyses of race, class, nation, sexuality, gender, and globalization which have become central to scholarship and teaching in the field of women’s studies as well as feminist activism. The Institute was funded with generous support from The Ford Foundation.

TEAGLE FOUNDATION GRANT

The National Women's Studies Association is pleased to announce it has received a two-year grant from the Teagle Foundation to investigate relationships between theories and practices of civic engagement at the undergraduate course level, develop model pedagogies for teaching about civic engagement, and train faculty to implement and assess such pedagogies.

NWSA DATA COLLECTION PROJECT

NWSA partnered with the National Organization for Research (NORC) at the University of Chicago to collect data on the field of women’s/ gender studies nationally; the project was made possible with generous support from The Ford Foundation.

The Mapping Women’s Studies / Gender Studies project is now complete and has two primary goals:

  • Women’s and gender studies department chairs can compare their program with others nationally to make the case for staffing and other resources.

  • NWSA can better understand trends in the field and can develop programs and services accordingly.
