Title: Las Mujeres de la Caucus Chicana
Producer: Linda Garcia Merchant
E-Mail: linda@vocesprimeras.com
Reviews: Emerging from the feminist and Chicano movements of the 60s and 70s is a story of six
Latinas who, through a series of "Aha!" moments answered the call to action. Their
ideological differences, personal experiences and upbringings brought them to a
monumental turning point in their lives the National Women's Political Caucus
(NWPC) and the 1977 International Women's Year National Women's Convention. As
chosen delegates from the states of Illinois, California and Texas, these women formed
the NWPC Chicana Caucus that represented Latina sisters across the nation and worked
towards liberation.
Says film director Linda Garcia Merchant, "our history as a part of a collective whole
is not being preserved in any way there is very little historical documentation on the
lives of these women activists. Oral storytelling plays a very important role in the
Hispanic culture. We must tell our stories. The goal of Voces Primeras LLC is to
document the lives of Latina activist women that have played crucial and pivotal roles in
our history. This information must be passed down to future generations or it will be lost
forever. By creating a catalog of documentary films on Latina pioneers, specifically in
the Midwest, it recognizes the importance of oral storytelling through visual media."

Title: Running in High Heels
Producer: Maryann Breschard
E-Mail: maryann.breschard@52women.org
Reviews: With role models like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan setting the (deplorable) standards by which many young women aspire, you may not be shocked by the devastating statistics uncovered in Maryann Breschard's probing documentary Running in High Heels .
Those stats: Women makeup 52 percent of the world's population, yet only occupy 16 percent of the House and Senate and 6 percent of executive offices (CEO, CFO, and the like), with Breschard estimating it will take 300 to 700 years before women achieve equality in America. This terrific little film explores the various aspects of women, politics, feminism, fashion, and tradition. By following a Republican woman running for office, it also cleverly posits a challenging question. Should feminists vote for women, regardless of the candidates' politics? This film leaves audiences, especially those with an academic bents with much to discuss about mainstream America.
A very good film to watch both before Election Day and also during Women's History Month.

Title: WOMEN BEHIND THE CAMERA
Producer: Alexis Krasilovsky
E-Mail: alexiskras@aol.com
Reviews: This made-by-women-for-women documentary, based upon Krasilovsky’s book of the same name (Praeger 1997), explores the lives of camerawomen in Canada, France, Iran, Russia, Mexico, Senegal, Hollywood and Bollywood. “And what gutsy characters she found—from the Chinese women who filmed Mao as he traveled the countryside in the 1950s, to the Afghan women who secretly recorded Taliban atrocities, to an African American who earned her way into the white-boys’ club of cinematographers. The filming itself was a communal effort, with interviews recorded by lenswomen around the world. Don’t expect a slick Hollywood documentary; this is more of a document, but a memorable one.” – Ms., Fall 2007. Now available in a Special Edition 2-Disc Set with Teacher’s Guide: www.womenbehindthecamera.com.
