Revisiting "The Colonial Harem": Gender, Justice, & Resistance in the Age of Genocide

When:  Jun 26, 2024 from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM (ET)

The National Women's Studies Association proudly co-sponsors the open classroom workshop Revisiting "The Colonial Harem": Gender, Justice, & Resistance in the Age of Genocide, which is hosted by the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities Diasporas (AMED) Studies Program at San Francisco State University and Teaching Palestine: Pedagogical Praxis & the Indivisibility of Justice.

Employing Malek Alloula's classic, The Colonial Harem, as a point of departure, the fourth Open Classroom in Palestine: Ethnic Studies Perspective Course, launched as part of Popular University for Gaza, will discuss: *In what ways do Islamophobia, Orientalism, and Zionism enable the censorship and silencing of critical thinking, debate and teaching on gender and sexual justice in Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian communities? *How significant is pink washing and colonial feminism in enabling and justifying the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and what are some of the strategies to resist them?

You can watch this discussion - featuring Walaa Alqaisia, Huma Dar, Tomomi Kinukawa, Mahasen Nasser Eddin, Sima Shakasari, and moderator Rabab Adbuldhadi - at https://tinyurl.com/TP2024C4
