Through the Portal: Building the World We Want

Starts:  Sep 20, 2024 09:00 AM (CT)
Ends:  Sep 22, 2024 05:00 PM (CT)

Join us at the University of Illinois at Chicago September 20-22, as a thousand social justice artists, scholars, and activists converge to culminate the Portal Project, a two-year, movement-centered symposium on critical questions of justice, power, solidarity, and change. Some of your favorite feminist NWSA leaders will be present: Chandra Talpade Mohanty, Angela Y. Davis, Beverly  Guy-Sheftall and many more, including feminist professors who have been on the frontlines of the fight for justice in Palestine and academic freedom on our campuses.

As the world stands on the brink of a historic national election, amid global wars, a gut-wrenching genocide in Gaza, and assaults on already flawed democratic institutions, "Through the Portal: Growing the World We Want" will offer a space to gather, assess, and reimagine our scholarship, our teaching, and our collective future.

"Through the Portal: Building the World We Want" is a conference call for scholars, organizers, dreamers, and doers. Come to learn, share, build community, and be inspired. As former NWSA Presidents, we join with current President Heidi Lewis, in encouraging you to join us in September. Registration will open at the end of June.  Space will be limited. Please visit our Portal Project website in late June for more details.
